Kanye West × Louis Vuitton

Ye's fascination with Louis Vuitton goes way back. The self-proclaimed Louis Vuitton Don was always at the forefront of merging street fashion with high fashion, and the French fashion house was long on his list as a potential future collaborator if not an employer. In 2009, long before his friend and former colleague Virgil Abloh became the label's Men's Creative Director, Kanye West x Louis Vuitton officially happened. The two collaborated on two sneaker silhouettes. One, aptly named the Louis Vuitton Don, is a mid-top sneaker with a leather upper and suede paneling. The other, named after Ye's former stylist Ibn Jasper, is a high-top model with two straps over its lace closure and ribbed suede heel. While the collaboration was short-lived, it did show Ye’s promise as a footwear designer which he later fulfilled with Nike and Adidas.
