Nike Decade
While they're not Nike's most unique design, the story attached to the 1993 Nike Air Decades is far from ordinary. In 1997, 39 members of the Heaven's Gate Cult in San Diego collectively committed suicide in an attempt to board an alleged UFO visiting them. As if the event wasn't horrifying and bizarre enough, all dead members were found wearing the black Nike Decades as part of their uniform. The budget-friendly runners were sold in almost every major American footwear store, but once Nike took note of the incident, they were quick to pull them out of stores. However, the story of the Nike Air Decades made them one of the most infamous sneakers ever, causing a huge run on the mundane mainline sneakers. While Nike has released similar models, the original Decades have never seen a re-release as of yet, causing them to sell online for very steep prices.
