Junya Watanabe Poem Shirt

After Junya Watanabe had success on the women's side under the Comme Des Garçons umbrella in the 1990s, the Japanese designer entered the menswear market with bold colors and poetic messaging in 2001 for Spring/Summer 2002. Over two decades later, the Junya Watanabe poem shirts remain one of the most coveted designs in modern fashion history.

The collection featured a wide array of shirts, t-shirts, pants, and Levi's jeans, which featured printed texts. While a lot has been said and written about the meanings of the contents, texts like "I Want to Be You" were merely meant as expressions of love without emphasis on substance. As a result, the designs often feature surprising word combinations which nevertheless have resonated with Junya fans ever since.
