In 1888, George Vuitton—son of the eponymous Louis Vuitton—introduced the Damier print, the repeating squares that became synonymous with the French luxury house. When Miuccia Prada took over the family business, it was her embrace of ballistic-grade nylon that transformed Prada into a household name. Yet, it’s the brands proprietary Saffiano leather that truly stood the test of time.

Originally a proprietary method of covering high-grade calf-leather with an imprinted wax—hence giving it the elusive “Saffiano” pattern—the end-result is water resistant, incredibly durable and texturally rich.
