Back in 2012, Virgil Abloh made his first venture into the fashion industry with his small assortment of Champion-branded hoodies, T-shirts, shorts, socks and flannels. While many criticized Abloh for ‘rebranding’ blanks and reselling them at exorbitant prices, it was this ability to reference and remix that helped create early buzz around Pyrex Vision. Abloh’s unique approach to fashion and streetwear, with its foundations in Pyrex Vision, would inevitably kickstart Abloh’s career as a thoroughly modern fashion designer. Pyrex has since evolved into the acclaimed Off-White—a satirical approach to a burgeoning market for streetwear-meets-luxury. This blend of heavy Pyrex branding, repurposed onto a pair of red mesh Champion basketball shorts, is indicative of Abloh’s past and present aesthetic sensibilities. These shorts were one of many signature styles for Pyrex Vision during its heyday.
