Takeshi Osumi (Big-O) began as a rap/hip-hop artist in the group Shakkazombie during the 1990s.
In 1999, he founded the fashion brand SWAGGER together with his friend, inspired by Japanese hip-hop culture. SWAGGER quickly became popular for its streetwear style and collaborations with major brands such as Nike, Timberland, The North Face, Levi’s, Wu-Tang Clan, and many more.
In 2004, Osumi launched his second brand, PHENOMENON – more personal, experimental, and infused with luxury elements. The brand even appeared at Tokyo Fashion Week, but eventually went bankrupt in 2013 due to financial issues.
In 2012, together with Yuichi Yoshii, he started a new brand called MISTERGENTLEMAN, which continued to remain active until the early 2020s.
Sadly, in 2021, Takeshi Osumi passed away at the age of 47. His final collection for MISTERGENTLEMAN was shown after his passing, marking the closing chapter of his legacy.
👉 In short, Osumi was not only an icon of Japanese hip-hop, but also a pioneer of Japanese streetwear who left a strong influence on global fashion.
