this pair of black painted raw denim highlights a few key ideas from margiela - the use of paint and the inevitable progression of time. the original blue raw denim has been coated with a thick coat of black paint, reinforcing the structure of the denim to make it sturdy yet soft. the denim was laid flat when painted, which caused some part to retain the original denim blue.

there are several areas where the black paint has chipped off ever so slightly, interacting with the warp of the denim to create a brown-ish patina. minor distressing details can also be found around the inseam and hem. the iconic label has been removed by the previous owner, abiding margiela’s original idea of snipping the label off instead of leaving it in.
