As previously noted, the A-2 flight jacket is a true icon within the Real McCoy's range, made by a small team with leather produced by the Shinki tannery exclusively for Real McCoy's. It was originally designed for the United States Army Air Force pilots (USAAF or AAF). Between 1931 and 1945 roughly 200.000 pieces were produced, which made it the most produced leather jacket ever...
It was made not only by producers of military equipment; it was also produced by private contractors. Depending on the manufacturer there were some differences in silhouette and details like collars, pocket flaps or the color of the wool ribbing. The ribbings are all circular knit, 100% wool. Custom produced hardware to replicate the originals, including the zipper, push stud buttons, and the neck hook.
A special feature of this model of the A-2 is the red silk lining. In World War 2 flying aces of the USAAF could wear red linings in their A-2 flight jackets. A flying ace, fighter ace or air ace is a military aviator credited with shooting down several enemy aircraft during aerial combat. The actual number of aerial victories required to officially qualify as an ace has varied but is usually considered to be five or more. Richard Ira Bong was the leading flying ace of the USAAF during World War 2 with 40 confirmed kills, followed by Thomas Buchanan McGuire Jr. with 38 confirmed kills.

The Real McCoy’s have recreated a stunning version of this flight jacket for flying aces. A vegetable tanned horsehide outer combined with the red silk lining, with the addition of 100% wool ribbing and a reproduced 1940’s Talon zipper. The Real McCoy’s will only produce this version for a short period of time.
