Description

Takahiro Miyashita's Number (N)ine Spring/Summer 2004 collection entitled "Dream Baby Dream" was inspired by the counterculture of “Mods & Rockabilly” of the late 1960s and the New York punk scene of the early 1970s with influences from artists such as: Patti Smith, Debbie Harry (Blondie), Richard Hell (The Voidoids) and Alan Vega (Suicide). Also, incorporating notable references from the British punk band members (like Paul Simonon) from “The Clash” among others. This collection highlighted the brand’s last runway show held locally in Japan and took place in a parking garage with notable attendees including Nobuhiko Kitamura from “Hysteric Glamour”. The clothing was a mix of streetwear and tailoring with great diversity of garments and accessories, including, but not limited to: bombers, blousons, blazers, vests, hoodies, jeans, trousers, skull-shaped rings, mesh knits and much more… Color palette was derived from shades of black with some offerings done in bold “hi-vis” neon primary colors and even exotic animal prints like tiger and leopard fur patterns. Apart from the expected distressing of the clothing, the maximalist use of zipper detailing and some “bondage” like straps were also included on some pieces. This was the collection that showcased the “Double Skull'' motifs that blew up in popularity within the “archive fashion” scene in the likes of the “Jedi” hoodies, graphic “Dead Rockers” tees and velour track jackets infamously worn by Ian Connor and Travis Scott.
