Description
Helmut Lang's AW99 collection was focused on defining a new armor for the approaching millennium. The culmination of over a decade of austere minimalist designs with high-quality and high-tech fabrics, Lang took it a step further by injecting NASA-inspired design details for a truly futuristic vision. This astro moto was one of Lang's more inconspicuous creations, but nonetheless a design that balanced all of these influences in one garment, which prompted its use in the season's print advertisements photogrpahed by Jeurgen Teller. Fashioned from a soft and lightweight black calf leather, the jacket is fully padded for insulation and structure, with reinforced padding details on the shoulders and elbows. Alongside the two side pockets are separate zippers which open up to give the wearer access to their pant pockets while riding a motorcycle, but also double as hand warmer pockets, keeping the wearers hands insulated in colder conditions. It also features a less obtrusive asymmetrical cafe racer collar with a glossy black snap closure, and a front zip closure and zippered sleeve cuffs, making this truly a moto jacket for the new millennium and beyond.
