Shinsuke Takizawa's Neighborhood first opened shop as a motorcycle, military and outdoor lifestyle brand in 1994 in the Harajuku district of Tokyo alongside contemporaries like Bape and Undercover, during the height of "Urahara kei," a subversive, American-influenced fashion movement named after the back alleys that birthed it. Decades later, Neighborhood is one of the few brands that has remained unerringly consistent and spawned dozens of imitators along the way. This nylon fishtail parka from the Fall/Winter 2002 collection brings together all of Neighborhood's influences in one garment. Based on the US Army issued M-51 fishtail parka cut with a drawcord-adjustable hood, waist and hem, this iteration features a poly-fill quilted lining that extends through the hood with an MA-1 influenced satin ripstop nylon outer and ribbed sleeve cuffs. The coat features zippered expansion panels and two patch cargo pockets on each sleeve, three larger zippered pockets along the back, two pockets on the waist and six angled zipper pockets along the chest that are surprisingly functional with ample room to store your daily carry.

Born in the city of Saitama, Japan, Tsumori Chisato studied fashion at the prestigious Bunka Fashion School in Tokyo. In 1977, she entered the Issey Miyake design company as the head designer for Issey Sport, later renamed "IS Chisato Tsumori Design." This vintage boat neck sweater from the 1980's features the iconic care instructions text screen printed on the front, 100% terry cotton, ribbed hems and the company's iconic "IS" logo.

In the early 1980s, Needles founder Keizu Shimizu ran a small shop called Redwood that was one of the first fashion retailers in Tokyo to stock brands like Nike and Air Jordan alongside American sportswear and army fatigues. As he noticed a decline in the amount of products made in the USA, and an overall decline in quality, he started his own company, Nepenthes, with the goal of creating high-quality clothing exclusively within the US and Japan. Three decades later, Nepenthes has become a successful international company responsible for several different brands, the most recent being Rebuild by Needles. Launched in 2013, the Rebuild sub-line recycles and deconstructs vintage military and working class garments, stitching them together to create reimagined one-of-a kind pieces. Taking cut and sewn to another level, this T-shirt is made from sections cut from multiple vintage T-shirts and sewn together to create a unique piece that reflects the creative spirit of the brand.

In 1979, Joy Division enlisted acclaimed artist Peter Saville to create the album artwork for their debut album, Unknown Pleasures. Much to his surprise, the band turned to a textbook page and pointed to a graphic that they absolutely loved. This image turned out to be a mysterious reading of a signal frequency from outer space. No one quite knew who or what had made it. To this day, decades after Unknown Pleasures was released, Seville's artwork for the band is as iconic as ever with fashion labels such as Number (N)ine, Undercover and Raf Simons repurposing it on everything from T-shirts and pants to leather jackets and parkas. Number (N)ine's particular iteration is nearly impossible to come by today given the fact that this T-shirt was released in the very early years of the brand.
