Supreme Announces Dead Prez Collaboration
- Words Anteneh Gebre
- Date December 2, 2019
Continuing its theme of paying homage to classic hip-hop acts, this week’s Supreme collaboration is with the political Hip Hop duo Dead Prez.
Though Dead Prez members M-1 and stic.man met in 1990 at the HBCU Florida A&M University, the groups debut album, Let’s Get Free, wasn’t released until 2000. It was during these years that the members’ work with the pan-African Uhuru movement began to impact their outlook on society, causing them to move to New York and spread their message of community building. Upon release, the album garnered the group international attention as it covered topics including racism, police brutality and injustice. This release is still widely considered one of the most radical Hip Hop albums of all time.
Releasing this week, Supreme has created a collection featuring artwork from Dead Prez’ Let’s Get Free and Revolutionary But Gangsta albums. The capsule includes a quilted work jacket, hoodie, sweatpants, T-shirts, five-panel caps, and a bandana.
The Supreme x Dead Prez collection will be available this Thursday, December 5, at Supreme’s US, European and online stores. It will be released on December 7 in Japan. Be sure to check Grailed shortly after 11 AM as items make their way to the Hype marketplace.
