In 2003, renowned NYC graffiti artist Eric Haze dropped both a low and high top collaboration with Nike on the ubiquitous Dunk silhouette. It was one of the earliest and most important collaborations between street artists and big-time sneaker companies. The low tops are super rare, as it’s rumored that only 1,000 were released around the world. For the design, Haze took a black and white palette and used an overspray technique (looking very much like spray paint), and the colors are inverted between the highs and lows.

A little less in-your-face “green” than your typical St. Patrick’s Day-themed sneakers, these “St. Patty’s” Dunk Highs from 2005 are a little bit more Lemon-Lime than traditional Kelly Green. Released in women’s sizing, the St. Patty’s Dunks feature a white leather upper with lime green overlays and matching laces, with yellow accents by the heel and a (now yellowed) translucent sole. To complete the image, a four-leaf clover design can be found stitched by the heel in white.

In another timeline, we’d be getting ready for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo right now. We’ll have to wait at least a year for the Summer Games, but in the meantime, let’s admire this USA-themed Olympic Dunk High, which was released in preparation for the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. Sporting a white leather upper with Navy overlays, this patriotic piece features an American flag with the year 2000 stitched by the heel. There have been so many USA-themed sneakers released over the years between the Olympics and the 4th of July but these really may be the gold medal of the bunch.

The Lebron VII has become one of the most revered silhouettes of the Lebron line, as it has spearheaded the line’s recent retro run. We first caught a glimpse of this Lakers-themed colorway on Lebron’s feet at his 2019 Media Day availability and they instantly caused a stir. They ultimately received a proper release in May 2020. Highlighted by the unmistakable purple and gold of the Lakers, the shoes sport a mismatched colorway, with the right shoe featuring a predominantly purple upper and the left shoe sporting a yellow upper.

Queens native and pro BMX rider Nigel Sylvester joined the Jordan family back in 2017 to help shine a light on the biking scene. Soon after, he was tasked with creating his first collaborative Jordan, and he opted for his go-to riding sneaker: the Jordan I. Nigel’s version released in 2018 and features a sail colorway with a red outsole. What sets his apart from other Jordan Is is the distressed look. Nigel’s Jordan I features scuff marks and abrasions throughout, to make it feel as if you’ve been riding in them for years.

The “Laser” Jordan IV featured in this listing takes the OG Fire Red colorway and carves an intricate design throughout the entire white leather upper. Released in 2005, the laser etching technique was very popular around this time for Jordan Brand, having been featured heavily on 2005’s Jordan XX, as well as laser-etched retro versions of the I, IV, V, not to mention the Dub Zero silhouette. The laser etchings here are done in gold, adding a new twist to a classic shoe.

Philadelphia-based retailer UBIQ likes to look back throughout history for inspiration, which is fitting, considering Philadelphia is the birthplace of this nation. In 2013, UBIQ released “The Benjamin,” a New Balance 1600 colorway which paid homage to the founding father. Three years later, they dropped this “English Crown” colorway of the 1600, this time taking design cues from the U.K.’s St. Edward’s Crown. This Brit-inspired pair features a luxurious burgundy suede upper with golden details throughout. You can even find orb and scepter designs printed on the insoles.

As the cornerstone of its Spring 2020 collection, Kith dropped two “Steel Blue” colorways in both the New Balance 998 and 992 silhouettes a few months back. The 992, which is featured in this listing, is without a doubt one of the best New Balance releases of the year (so far). The “Steel Blue” colorway was inspired by the 1300CL shoe, and brings that signature charcoal grey suede and steel blue mesh to the 992. Featuring a white reflective “N” logo, this pair sits sturdy atop a two-toned ABZORB midsole. It’s been a big year for the 992 and this is one of the reasons why.

Before Ronnie Fieg was designing New Balances under the Kith banner, he was making a name for himself with his popular Asics collaborations, like this “Neptune” Gel Saga from 2012. Featuring a Slate nubuck upper with aqua side stripes and laces, they really complete the aquatic theme with a navy midsole and another splash of aqua on the outsole. This was released as one of Fieg’s patented “Kithstrikes,” which he brought back a few weeks ago for another pair of Fieg-designed Asics.

This version of the Italian sportswear brand’s V7000 silhouette features some of the most lush materials you could ask for in a sneaker. The white upper sports a combination of pigskin and hairy suede, as well as kangaroo leather and an engineered mesh, with hints of grey along the side logo, a pastel green around the heel and a dusty rose color along the mudguard. The heel features a pill logo as well as the logo for Afew, the New Jersey-based retailer who helped design this excellent 2017 project.
