There have been a lot of rumors in recent weeks about certain Kobe Nike models releasing over the next year or so. A lot of popular colorways have been circulating–including the “Grinch” VIs, arguably the most sought after Kobe Nike ever made–but last week, we received confirmation, by way of official Nike photos, that a beloved Kobe model will indeed make its triumphant return: the Kobe V “Bruce Lee.”
It’s no secret that the Mamba counted Bruce Lee as an inspiration. Kyrie Irving has even carried on that “Mamba Mentality” with Bruce Lee-inspired colorways of his own Nike shoes. If the Nike photos are any indication, the “Bruce Lee” Protro V will remain true to the original, sporting its signature yellow and black colorway (inspired by Lee’s look from Game of Death) and will be released alongside a white and black variation as well. It's a fitting colorway choice—one inspired by the style of Bruce Lee—given the recent release of the Lee-focused ESPN documentary: Be Water.
In the months since Kobe Bryant’s tragic death, it has remained unclear how Nike would proceed with his products. It appears as though they are getting ready to honor his legacy later this year with retro releases of some of his most iconic sneakers, something that will certainly make his legions of loyal fans around the world very happy.
Never forget: No online retailer has the same breadth and depth of selection as Grailed. From Aleali May’s “other” Jordan I collaboration to Joe Louis New Balances (and everything in between)–in no particular order, these are our picks for Grailed’s Sneaker Stories of the week.
