The 10 Rarest Sneakers On Grailed: Week of April 12, 2020

For many sneaker companies, the release calendar has historically walked in lockstep with the NBA season. For example, Christmas in December and NBA All-Star Weekend in February are traditional tent poles of the industry. Both serve as showcases for new products, thanks in part to large television audiences and marquee superstar matchups, typically between players donning the promoted footwear. Companies like Nike and Jordan Brand traditionally plan bigger releases to dovetail with these respective time frames. Jordan Brand in particular has owned the Holiday season over the years, saving its biggest releases for the end of the year.
Easter, which flew under the radar this past Sunday, is in a tier below those two aforementioned events from a sneaker perspective, but has remained important to the industry for a lot of the same reasons. Easter Sunday is traditionally filled with superstar-laden NBA matchups throughout the day, as the league’s upper echelon are ramping up towards the playoffs, and the holiday’s bright color palette has historically lent itself to creative designs.
This Easter season, with safe social distancing practices being implemented around the world due to COVID-19, Easter-themed sneaker releases are–understandably–going unnoticed and without fanfare. However, the sneaker industry as a whole is finding new ways to adapt to an increasingly remote consumer experience and escalating economic uncertainty, and Easter-themed releases are coming (or in some cases, have already dropped). Nike, Jordan, Reebok and adidas all have their assorted pastels loaded up for the holiday, we just won’t be able to see them on NBA courts any time soon. In the spirit of the season, we kick off this week’s list with some Easter classics from previous years.
