Last week, we broke down what our favorite sneaker companies were doing to combat the COVID-19 Coronavirus outbreak from a business perspective—including adjusting release dates and shifting to digital sales. This week, it’s important to highlight what some shoe companies are doing to directly help those fighting on the front lines of this virus.

The New Balance Foundation pledged $2 million towards local and global COVID-19 relief efforts, including specific donations to Global Giving, No Kid Hungry and various food banks. “We firmly believe it is our civic duty to support our communities in need around the world,” said Anne Davis, managing trustee of the New Balance Foundation.

Nike recently announced that it will be manufacturing personal protective equipment to support doctors and nurses at Oregon Health & Science University, as the COVID-19 pandemic takes a toll on healthcare professionals’ supplies. “Companies like Nike need to do our part,” said CEO John Donahoe.

Crocs and Allbirds are offering free shoes for healthcare workers in the United States while supplies last. Merrell has delivered shoes and boots to local hospitals in West Michigan, where the brand calls home. As the pandemic continues to develop and hospital circumstances grow more strenuous, we can only hope that more brands join the fray and contribute in some way.
