Initially unveiled during Off-White’s Spring/Summer 2019 Womenswear show during Paris Fashion Week last September, the new collaboration focuses on Nike’s rich Track & Field heritage. Designed to cater towards athletes every need, the capsule includes training, performance, post-workout gear and, naturally, footwear. While the dual branded Off-White x Nike “Sport” clothing is women’s only, the shoes are in fact unisex (though like the recently released Sacai and Cactus Plant Flea Market collections are listed in Women’s sizes). Although the gear itself—worn on the runway by various Olympians all of whom are Nike signature athletes—is novel, a clever twist of Nike tech with the signature Off-White aesthetic, as with anything Off-White x Nike the sneakers are the central component. Dubbed the Zoom Terra Kiger 5, the shoes Track & Field inspiration is readily apparent, with an upper influenced by classic Nike track sneakers such as the ‘76 Waffle Trainer while seemingly track-ready spikes—rubber as opposed to metal—line the sole. Established Off-White flourishes like the plastic oversized zip tie and orange tag attached to the swoosh round out one of the most exciting Off-White x Nike releases since the original “Ten.” While the future surrounding Abloh’s Nike partnership is uncertain, if the two continue to focus on specific capsules similar to “Athletes in Progress,” then the best is yet to come.
