When “The Ten” debuted in 2017, it was inarguably the most hyped collaboration of the year—perhaps decade. More than Nike recognizing the worldwide fervor surrounding Off-White, the ensuing hype and massive demand proved Virgil Abloh was more than simply a streetwear designer, but a pivotal figure in culture at large. While the initial concept was to release the ten deconstructed silhouettes periodically over a year, the unprecedented success led to countless additional colorways, permutations and one-off capsules over the next two years. Earlier this year, however, “The Ten” finally came to a close with the release of two new Off-White x Nike Air Max 90s. While “The Ten” is finished, everyone knew Nike’s relationship was far from over, however what form it would take was unclear. Finally, a few weeks ago the pair clarified with the official announcement of “Athletes in Progress.”
