Without question, the sneaker world loves a good red, white and blue colorway. From a subtle pair of classic white Chuck Taylors to the more exotic “True Blue” Air Jordan III, America’s favorite colors have permeated sneaker culture for quite some time, gracing us with some iconic kicks. Even Forrest Gump rocked some once upon a time.

Summer time is the perfect season to break out the red, white and blue. Seemingly every year, Nike and others roll out an onslaught of red, white and blue colorways for your favorite sneakers, coinciding with the year’s USA Basketball proceedings and, especially, the Summer Olympics. Then there are the summer holidays, most notably Independence Day, where it’s as good a time as any to release some star-spangled sneakers.

Sneaker brands will make a holiday out of anything, capitalizing on the moment, no matter how niche it may seem to the average consumer, but the July 4th and the patriotic apparel that often comes with it has actually churned out some solid sneakers over the past few decades.

As you can see below, it’s often more than just slapping a simple, classic color palette on a known quantity sneaker. These shoes range from the subtle to the extravagant, the known quantity to more obscure models. Most importantly though, these are sneakers you’ll want to wear (before, during and long after) July 4th.
