When you think of denim, you probably think of blue jeans. From America to Japan—and everywhere in between—indigo is by and large thought of as the color synonymous with denim.

But, as iconic as blue denim is, there’s something compelling about black jeans. Not only can they be a little bit easier to dress up, but there’s a certain mystique about black jeans—owing perhaps to the people that have worn them over the years and the brands that have riffed on the simultaneously streamlined and rock n’ roll staple.
