Barriers
Barriers is an American streetwear brand founded in New York City by Steven Barter and Jeff-Jean Jacques in 2015. The brand uses streetwear to share Black history, with each garment highlighting Black political heroes, artists and other prominent figures that played a positive role in Black history. Barriers designer Steven Barter aims to tell Black stories through his designs, using streetwear staples like hoodies, t-shirts and hats to amplify them. Contrary to Denim Tears, a brand with a similar ideology, Barriers often references vintage artist fan merch, with graphic lettering and vintage photography. Barriers has made collections celebrating the likes of Angela Davis, Bob Marley, Miles Davis and Nas, all under the premise of "Wisdom, Courage, Vision" with the ultimate goal to "live free."
